Michael Cochren
Gibson County Prosecutor

Michael R. Cochren became Gibson County Prosecutor in 2017. He is a member of the Gibson County Bar Association, the Indiana Bar Association, the National District Attorney’s Association, and the Indiana Prosecuting Attorney’s Council. He has been an attorney since 1996 having graduated from Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis in 1996. Prior to that he graduated from Indiana University with a degree in political science. Cochren has tried many types of cases in his career to a jury and remains a “trial” lawyer.

Cochren was a member of the United States Army Reserve. He is actively involved in his community. He is past president of the Princeton Rotary Club and is an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Princeton Elks. He has served on the Finance Committee at St. Joseph Catholic Church and is active in his church community.

Cochren has been involved in youth sports having coached basketball at St. Joseph School and Princeton Community Middle School both as a paid coach and volunteer coach. He has been involved in the Princeton Middle School baseball program as well as Little League and Youth Football.

Cochren is a native of Gibson County and he and his wife, Celana have been married over 20 years. They are the proud parents of Ethan, Reagan, and Seth. Cochren and his family reside in Princeton. “When we got married my wife and I had to make a decision where to live. We chose Gibson County. We knew this is where we wanted to be and where we wanted to raise a family.”

Abigail Cox

Chief Deputy Prosecutor

Abigail Cox joined the Gibson County Prosecutor’s Office as a deputy prosecutor in January of 2011 after working in private practice and as legal counsel for the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS). Abby prosecutes cases primarily in Circuit Court and is responsible for all juvenile delinquency matters and the Child Fatality Review Team. She serves on the Coalition for Communities that Care through Youth First and the DCS Regional Services Counsel.

Abby is a 1998 graduate of the University of Evansville, where she majored in Political Science and minored in Spanish. She graduated from The Capital University Law School in Columbus, Ohio in 2001.

Sharon Werne

Deputy Prosecutor

Sharon H. Werne is Chief Deputy Prosecutor for Gibson County and has held that position since her hire in 1995. She serves as prosecutor primarily in Gibson Superior Court which handles felony, misdemeanor and traffic infraction causes. She has litigated murder, sex crime, animal abuse and operating while intoxicated cases.

Sharon is a 1976 graduate of University of Southern Indiana with a major in Biology and Chemistry. She worked in the private sector heading laboratory analysis for a coal corporation and then attended Indiana University School of Law in Bloomington, graduating in 1992. She then worked as an associate for a local attorney in general practice with a focus on criminal defense before her hire into the prosecutor’s office.

Sharon is currently the President of the Gibson County Bar Association and is a member of the Domestic Violence Task Force, Fraternal Order of Police, Child Protection Team, Tri-Kappa Sorority, and served as secretary/treasurer for Citizens for Drug Free Gibson County for many years. She is a board member of Salvation Army of Gibson and Pike County, Gibson County Council on Aging, Animal Services for Gibson County, Gibson County Community Corrections, and is an active team member of the Substance Abuse Treatment (Drug) Court administered through Gibson County Superior Court.

Anthony “Tonee” Hurst

Deputy Prosecutor

Anthony “Tonee” Hurst is a deputy prosecutor for the Gibson County Prosecutor’s Office. His duties include Title IV-D child support enforcement, traffic court, and felony and misdemeanor case assistance in Gibson Superior Court. He also is the office’s primary legal research attorney.

Tonee is a 2003 graduate of the University of Southern Indiana, where he majored in Philosophy. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington in 2006.

Tonee joined the prosecutor’s office in 2012. Prior to that, he was in private practice, practicing primarily in Warrick and Vanderburgh Counties.
