Who we Are

The Gibson County Public Defender’s Office serves as a vital pillar of the criminal justice system, providing indigent clients with access to competent legal representation. Attorneys employed by the office handle criminal matters, children in need of services cases, mental health commitments, Title IV D, juvenile and other areas where liberty interests are at stake.  Through dedicated professionals, the agency navigates the intricacies of court proceedings, ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their financial means, receive fair and equitable treatment under the law.

Who's Eligible?

Under the United States Constitution, individuals have the right to an attorney if they cannot afford one, in any criminal prosecution. This right extends to a range of cases, including not only serious felonies but also misdemeanor offenses and other matters, including appeals.

The judge presiding over your case will determine the need and eligibility for a public defender.  You may be required to provide information about your financial situation and your ability to retain an attorney.
